Center Supports the Testnet Launch of Base

The new Ethereum L2, incubated by Coinbase, makes it easy to build decentralized apps.

Our goal at Center is to make it easier for developers to build great NFT products and services.

That’s why we’re excited to share that we are supporting the launch of Base, a new L2 incubated by Coinbase to bring the next billion users to web3.

Base is an Ethereum Layer 2 network—an open ecosystem that makes it easy for developers to build decentralized apps on-chain.

We’re providing one of the features that makes it easy to build on Base—the Center API allows any app built on Base to easily render images of NFTs.

If you’ve ever worked with NFTs, you probably know how much time it saves to have an API handle rendering. Without it, getting the image of any given NFT to appear in your app requires building something that can identify the right URL from the blockchain, retrieve the media, figure out the image’s size, and display it on your site—all while accounting for the two existing standards for NFTs and making sure the URL doesn’t link to a virus.

We plan to add other features of the Center API, such as filtering out Spam NFTs, searching for NFTs by traits, and retrieving NFT metadata. You can learn more about the full roadmap for Base, which is in the testnet phase, on the Coinbase blog.

Coinbase’s goal is for Base to bring the next billion users to Web3. We’re aligned with this ambition and excited for developers to start building on Base. To unleash the potential of blockchain technology, it needs to be easier for teams to create great user experiences and ship new features. And that’s what Base does for developers.
